What is Zero series ?

Zero series represents our standard yoyo for us. Taking inspiration from the number 0, the series is designed to serve as the measuring standard—or “zero point”—for evaluating the feel of various yo-yos. Its round shape, inspired by the Duncan Butterfly which is the ancestor of string-trick yo-yos, incorporates the spirit of both Anti-yo and A-rt. Since August 2023, we have released three models in the Zero series: the middle-sized ZeRo 54mm, the undersized zero 50mm, and the full-sized ZERO 57mm, which have been widely embraced by global yoyo players. The Zero 52mm, the much-anticipated final work in the series, draws inspiration from Anti-yo Eetsit and Anti-yo Bapezilla.

Concept “New Classic”

The Zero 52mm is built around the “New Classic” idea—a fusion of modern innovation with traditional heritage. Iconic machines such as Anti-yo’s Bapezilla and Eetsit are etched into the memories of many players as symbols of the classic round-shaped yoyo. By reinterpreting these timeless elements with contemporary technology and design, the Zero 52mm offers a unique blend of nostalgia and newness. More than a reproduction of the past, “New Classic” reflects our ambition to establish a new benchmark for undersize yoyos in today’s market—a next-generation “classic model” that both honors the roots of boutique yoyo culture and boldly challenges the future. We hope that by holding this yoyo, you’ll experience an evolution of your “everyday” play.

No discussion of this product’s development is complete without mentioning Anti-yo. In the mid-2000s, Anti-yo produced highly stylized aluminum yoyos that were renowned for their distinctive designs and exceptional performance. In particular, models like “Eetsit” and “Bapezilla” became iconic favorites among yoyo enthusiasts.

Anti-yo Eetsit

Eetsit made its debut on February 14, 2006, as the successor to the earlier “Fluchs.” It featured an aluminum body finished with a low-friction Slip Matte coating. Equipped with a large Dif-e-Yo KonKave bearing and an IRG (Inner Ring Groove) lip, along with a Dif pad treated as a response system, Eetsit was innovative despite a slightly wide string gap that sometimes allowed the string to catch between the bearing and the yoyo’s side. Its name is derived from a mispronunciation of “It’s-It,” inspired by the ice cream sandwich of the same name, which also influenced its signature white and brown color scheme.

Anti-yo Bapezilla

Released on July 4, 2006, Bapezilla was designed as the follow-up to Eetsit. It addressed previous design challenges by refining the bearing seat and narrowing the string gap, thereby resolving string slip issues. The aluminum body was treated with Anti-yo’s unique Slip Matte coating, offering both a smooth feel and excellent grind performance. Its striking two-tone color—half grassy green and half candy blue—became so influential that it set a trend among other yoyos. Originally limited to 400 units and selling out within weeks at a base price of $75, Bapezilla now commands high prices on the secondary market due to its rarity and enduring popularity.

How Does the Zero 52mm Embody New Classic?

Inspired by the unique playability and allure of the Anti-yo models, we began by analyzing what made those yoyos special. We considered several factors:

Centrally-Balanced Weight Distribution

Early Anti-yo models, characterized by a prominent hub and an M6 axle, had a notably heavy, solid feel. Although this produced an impressive mass, it could feel a bit too weighty by today’s standards. To recreate that distinct heft while improving balance, we opted for the M4 axle. Despite modern trends toward shorter axles, we chose a 20mm axle—a rarity these days—to recapture the robust weight distribution of the original Anti-yo designs.

Beautiful Round Shape

Even with a compact 52mm body, our thoughtful weight distribution ensures ample spin power. We preserved the soft, flowing curves of classic round shapes, resulting in a yoyo that spins smoothly and comfortably.

Signature coating

Beyond its stylish color options, the distinctive surface treatment of our classic models left a lasting impression. With the Zero 52mm, we analyzed these coatings and developed two finishes—Smooth Ultimatte and Vintage—to perfectly capture the high-end matte look and smooth touch that appeals to collectors.

Modern Playability with a Nod to the Past

The original Dif pads, known for their wide surface area, offered reliable “throw-out” and “return” performance despite being less refined than modern slim pads. For the Zero 52mm, we integrated At Design Lab’s Silky Pad—compatible with A-rt/CLYW sizing—to achieve an equally satisfying throw and return experience.

While retaining the DNA of Anti-yo Eetsit and Bapezilla, we significantly lightened the overall design and introduced the “Shmoved ring.” This feature minimizes unwanted tilt during string contact, preserving the precision and comfort of modern play without sacrificing the nostalgic vibe of the originals.

Vintage Coating

Recreates the surface treatment of vintage American yoyos with a non-matte finish that delivers a luxurious look and a unique smooth feel. Its slightly slick texture and refined finish are reminiscent of early full-metal yoyos—a recommended option if you’re undecided among the finishes.

Vintage Coating (Polished)

This version features a polished finish that provides the most solid, reliable spin among our finishes. If you prefer a slightly heftier feel, the 63g option may be ideal.

Smooth Ultimatte Coating

Our signature Smooth Ultimatte Coating is presented in a distinctive two-tone combination (Dark Gray/Space Gray) as an homage to the original Viszilla. This finish offers a softer, more modern spin feel. Both weight options are available, with the 62g model exhibiting a slightly brighter color.
