BRICC

A-rt x At Design Lab collaboration

BRICC

A-rt holds one of the most distinctive positions in modern yo-yo culture.
While many manufacturers have continued to evolve around the competition scene,
A-rt has, from an early stage, pursued the idea of the yoyo as an everyday object—a return top designed not to win, but to feel. True to the word “Art” in their name, their work can be seen as a form of artistic practice. When At Design Lab first encountered this philosophy, we felt a deep sense of empathy and curiosity.
This collaboration was never simply about co-developing a product.
It was a journey to rediscover the identity of At Design Lab through another’s perspective.
By looking into the mirror that is A-rt, we re-examined our own design philosophy— and at the end of that process, BRICC was born.

Design Process : From MoNo to BRICC

The first concept At Design Lab proposed to A-rt was a plastic-wing structure based on MoNo. There was even a version with a Shmoved Ring, but A-rt’s initial feedback was, unexpectedly, “Let’s go even more casual.”

Taking that cue, we made the bold decision to move toward a full high-wall shape.
Traditionally, this kind of structure loses spin time easily and is considered
“non-competitive” by modern standards.
Yet what both A-rt and At Design Lab sought was not performance, but feeling.
A yoyo that transcends efficiency, and instead, resonates through touch.

Shape Design : MoNo

MoNo embodies At Design Lab’s philosophy of
“one design, multiple sizes—to enjoy the differences.”
“From collection to selection”—a series meant not to display variations,
but to let players choose the expression that fits their rhythm.

Its design language draws from a deep respect for the CLYW Peak
and weight distribution inspired by the YoYoJam Hitman.
The goal was to combine the controllability of a classical high-wall
with the stability of a modern profile.
This foundation carried into BRICC, which inherits MoNo’s soft-rounded high-wall silhouette as the basis of its form.

Face Design : Diptych

A-rt’s Diptych is an emblematic model,
known for its gentle domed face and organic, flowing lines.
BRICC directly inherits this face design.

A-rt shared the original drawings,
and At Design Lab refined the overall balance, following the curvature with care.
What emerged was an understanding built not through words,
but through an exchange of sketches and silent trust.
BRICC was not shaped by one side alone—
it was born from the dialogue itself,
from the relationship that took form through mutual creation.

Inside Out - Redefining Structure and Values -

Inside BRICC lies a quiet story told from the reverse side.
Its construction turns the logic that once inspired MoNo —the legendary YoYoJam completely inside out.

In the 2000s, yo-yos were built with plastic centers and metal rims, engineered to maximize spin time and stability — the so-called “golden ratio” of competition.
It was an era when reaching the top defined value itself.

But time has changed.
Yo-yoing has shifted from competition to culture,
from the pursuit of the summit to the rhythm of everyday life.

BRICC embodies that cultural shift.
With a metal core wrapped in plastic, it literally turns the established structure inside out.
Yet this is not a technical experiment — it is a quiet exposure of what matters most.

It chooses feeling over function, experience over numbers.
Through this inversion of expectation, A-rt and At Design Lab together uncovered
a new definition of casual design — design as emotion made visible.

The Art of Inside out

The creation of BRICC was never merely about making a yo-yo.
It was an attempt to turn the very idea of beauty inside out.

When we shifted the center of value beyond function and efficiency,
design became an act of quiet revelation —
an artistic experiment in exposure.

Through the form of BRICC,
we gently turned the logic of perfection inside out,
revealing meanings that had always remained unseen.

It was not nostalgia,
but a quiet resistance toward the future —
a small proof that beauty often hides on the reverse side of reason.

And within that silent inversion
resides everything At Design Lab has always longed to express.
